North River Campground

After the long drive yesterday, today was definitely a down day. We had a relaxing day just watching the activity around the water of the five acre lake that sits in the middle of North River Campground. This is the view from out of Auntie Violet's front window --

There have been several more rigs that pulled in today, so now we have company next to us --

Forry and I went for a walk around the lake late this afternoon. I think it is a bit higher than normal due to all of the rain recently. The signs here in the fenced-off swimming area are part-way under water.

The campground is nicely landscaped with new grass planted in all the worn spots and the trees mulched with bright red bark --

The clubhouse looks to be fairly new and has a large room with screened windows towards the lakeside --

All of the sites are in pairs -- one is a pull-in for motor homes so that their front windows face the lake and the other site is a back-in site for 5th wheelers which have their living room windows in the rear,

There are four Purple Martin apartment houses spaced around the lake. I think maybe these birds are like the old churches -- the dark purple males are all on this side --

And the females with their light colored breasts and heads are on the other --

They have been fun to watch. If you get too close to the poles the apartments are on, the males get very excited and start flying towards you scolding the whole way!

Tomorrow we are planning to go to Kitty Hawk. I hope we have a bit warmer day than we had today...

  1. We stayed in that Campground last year and loved it. Enjoy your visit to Kitty Hawk.
