I Am Officially OLD!

I got a phone call from our broker yesterday. He very nicely told me that I needed to take a distribution of cash from my IRA by the end of the month.

I vaguely remember some discussion when I retired about how when you got to a certain age, you had to start taking out some of the money from your retirement plan -- otherwise those pre-tax dollars would be taxed at a 50% rate! But that was a long way away -- you were really old when it came time for that!

Well, evidently, that time has come and I am officially old.

So today we went to the Scottrade office here in Mesa and signed the Distribution Request. On the form, it asks if you want to do with-holding for federal income tax, and if so, at what rate. So I called our accountant Cleon to ask what percentage I should put in. He then proceeded to tell me that this meant that I was now officially "over the hill" and rolling down the other side...

But the day ended well anyway. We finally got to go to Tia Rosa's for dinner. The courtyard of the restaurant is filled with lights --

The entire place was decorated --

And the food was delicious! They make the most delicious chile relleno that is stuffed with shredded pork and pine nuts! Everyone else said their food was great too.
