Auntie Violet Gets a Bath

Auntie Violet was dirty!  She's been through a lot of dust and rain this year and it was getting pretty obvious something needed to be done.  We actually have all the necessary supplies and equipment to give her a bath, it's just a matter of getting some cool enough days and enough personal energy to get the job done.  I went down to the office of Old American Kampground this morning to pay the $4 fee for washing a rig at the park (many parks and resorts do not allow any washing at all).

We have this stuff called Quick and Easy Wash that we bought at Johnson RV a couple of years ago.  It only takes four capfuls of the stuff to two gallons of water.  You scrub it on and then wipe it off.  We actually only used a total of two gallons of water on the rig -- the rest was left as dirty water in the bucket.

Auntie Violet is parked on a site carved out of a hillside and we are actually a good foot or more down from the next site up the hill.  This left only a small area under the slides.  The only way we could get at the bays was to crawl under.  The green mitt on the timber is what I used to put on the wet solution and I am using the blue microfiber towel to dry and polish.  I wasn't real sure I was going to get back out from under there!

Forry's sitting by the long-handled pole we used to do the upper part of the coach.  I used a wet microfiber mop on the end of the pole and Forry dried with microfiber towels on another pole.

We have quite a collection of microfiber towels of various sizes that we have gotten from Almost Heaven Microfibers. We've bought them at the Gypsy Journal Gatherings, but they have a website www.almostheavenproducts.com that sells them as well.

We did the front and one side of the coach this morning and then waited -- and rested -- for a couple of hours this afternoon until the sun was no longer hitting it to do the rest.  Auntie Violet looks a whole lot better this evening.  I guess manual labor is as good a way as any to celebrate Labor Day!

  1. Whew! A lot of work! That's why we put it off for a whole year. Then...on our trip to Colorado we saw a huge "Truck Wash" sign in Laramie WY at a truck stop and decided to check it out. They did a wonderful job for $50.00 and we are clean!! (For awhile anyway!) They did the truck at the same time. Then all I had to do were the sides of the slides once we put them out. I like your photos. They tell the tale!

  2. We also try and stop at truck washes when we can. I will have to try that wash soap you have though. The front end really needs it far more often than the rest of the coach with all the bugs! GACK! Good job. :-)
