Last night Forry drained both the gray and black water tanks and we put away the outside stuff. This morning we were organized and ready to go by 10 AM. We drove down the lane from Old American Kampground to the diesel pump at Safeway and filled with fuel. With their 3 cent discount we paid $4.10 per gallon. We took Idaho State Highway 41 out of Newport south to meet up with Interstate 90 just out of Couer d' Alene.
Interstate 90 took us east through the Panhandle of Idaho and over Lolo Pass into Montana --
We took a break at the first Rest Stop in Montana. I had hoped to pick up a new Montana state map, but all they had left were brochures for Bozeman. Doesn't Auntie Violet look shiny and clean?
As we came through the area around Missoula, the air became extremely smokey. All of the valleys were thick with what smelled like wood smoke. I haven't heard any news, but we're assuming there must be some huge forest fires around.
When we got closer to Butte, the skies were blue again, but our windshield was covered with bugs! We went through a hatch of them that was almost as thick as the ones by Sprague Lake.
About 6:30 Mountain Daylight Time, we pulled into the Butte KOA Campground. I broke down and bought a KOA Value Kard which will give us a 10% discount at KOAs. We have not often stayed at them, but there are not a lot of the parks along our route that belong to our other discount clubs.
This park has an in-house food service. We ended up phoning in and ordering a shrimp and a rib dinner from them. It took about twenty minutes. The walk over to the office/clubhouse to pick up the meals was the hardest work I've done to fix a meal in a long time.
