It rained hard last night. We found a good half-inch of water in the wheel barrow and cans this morning when we went out to do chores. The wet leaves of this apple tree almost glowed in the morning light as Sister Sherry headed out with the mastiffs to feed the chickens --
The chickens were glad to get the kitchen scraps --
The neck of this pony shows how wet it got during the night --
This one joined the parade back to the house from the chicken yard --
And I spotted another of them over by the pond. They all are getting heavy coats -- is that a sign of a cold winter to come?
Keiko-san, the youngest of the mastiffs had an appointment at the vets in Walla Walla this morning for a routine check of his patellas (knees) and his heart. (The Mastiff Association has very specific tests that need to be done at very specific intervals that help insure the health of the breed.) He weighed 197 pounds at 22 months old. We had planned to do some quick shopping while we were in WW, but the day started to warm up quickly. Keiko was panting even with the car windows open, so we decided to head straight back to the farm rather than risk getting him overheated. We did stop to pick up fish tacos on the way home...
We got back to the farm to discover that there were two more deer hanging in the shop. The last of the hunting party had gotten their animals before they had to leave to go back home this afternoon. There's going to be some full freezers!
