We've had another very good, very blessed day. Today was the Harvest Festival at Menno. This is the first time in the last few years that we have been here at this time of year in order to help celebrate it. There was a good gathering of people in church this morning (many were still here following the funeral gathering on Friday.). I can't help but think how fortunate we are to be able to worship and fellowship freely. Many of our ancestors fled to this country many years ago for that very reason.
Today was also special as two of our young people were baptized this morning. While we practice Child Dedication as an acknowledgement of parental desire to raise children in a Christian home, we believe that Baptism is an individual decision made by a person old enough to understand its true meaning. This morning's ceremony was especially meaningful as the paternal grandfather and the maternal great-grandfather of the young man participated in the baptism.
I am always surprised at the amount and variety of food at church potlucks like the one we had today. No one can say that Mennonites are not good cooks! I did chuckle to see a couple of tator tot casseroles -- they bring back such fond memories of my late dear friend Phyllis as they were her signature dish.
It was 51 degrees when we woke up this morning. Since it has been so warm, we are still swatting flies -- in November! I think they know winter is coming as they keep crawling into Auntie Violet's warm interior. I have been using my electric fly swatter ever since we got home (also a good thing as it doesn't leave any nasty residue of dead fly behind on the ceiling or walls!) and my total killed is up to over forty! Freezing weather is forecast for the latter part of this week. Sounds like the flies will be leaving about the same time we are...!
