It was a lovely day for a drive, it had rained most of the night so the air was nice and clear, we were all packed and left for Seattle by ten. We had reservations at the Residence Hotel at Lake Union and pulled in just after three.
Our friends Bill and Leslie, joined us shortly and we talked the rest of the afternoon away. It's been way too long since we've seen them! A little after five, we walked across the street and down to the waterfront to the Crabhouse where we celebrated Bill's birthday with a wonderful dinner. We started with cups of crab soup and warm sourdough rolls. Forry had a spectacular crab cake - fully two inches high, while Leslie, Bill and I shared a whole Dungeness crab, served with asparagus and pilaf along with sides of mushrooms and broccolini. Bill was comped with a birthday crime brûlée which Leslie and I shared while Forry and Bill shared Key Lime pie. What a feast!
We came back over to the hotel and talks and talked. Too Bill had to go to work on Monday or we'd probably still be at it!

And So We Depart...
It took a few trips, but we got everything back out to Auntie Violet and put away. Juni had had an early PT appointment and by the time she was back, we were finished. She brought home boxes of Krispy Kreme doughnuts for our final sit down coffee on the back patio.
This is one of the many striped lizards that love the wall around the yard --
This is Izzy, a small bundle of Yorkie energy who will chase and catch balls as long as she can get someone to throw them.She's quickly figured out that with the new grabbers, we can reach the balls that roll under the table.
This is Cassie! She just turned a year old. Orphaned, Juni and Tom fed her every two hours around the clock. She's very spoiled and very charming.
This elegant lady is Tica. She's the matriarch who will occasionally chase a ball, but most times is found sitting demurely on someone's lap.
And these are our gracious hosts, Tom and Juni! We came to visit a couple of days with them and ended up spending almost two weeks, partly because of inclement weather, but mostly because we were having such a good time!
Forry and Tom got that tire with the slow unfindable leak aired up; we disconnected the electricity and hooked up Toad II. Finally we were on the road once more. We headed out on I-40, then cut off on Highway 25 to the other side of Albuquerque, then took Highway 550 north. This part of New Mexico has reservations of the Zuni, the Hopi, the Navajo and the Apaches. It's majestically beautiful.
The road climbs to over 7000 feet with an incredible variety of colors along the way --
We climbed high enough to begin to see Pinyon Pines along with the Juniper bushes and trees of the lower elevations.
You can see the effects of the last several years of drought. This whole area was much greener when we came through here two years ago.
White Mesa is not too far from this area. The white coloration becomes more prominent in the surrounding rocks, replacing the reds.
Forry fought a head wind and assorted cross winds most of the trip. As we got closer to Bloomfield where there is farm ground, it began to get pretty dusty. And cooler as well. It's already 48 degrees outside a little after nine pm.
We're settled in here at Desert Rose RV Park in Bloomfield and will most likely stay through Monday so that we can attend church with our friends.

Santuario de Chimayo
Today we took a day trip to Santa Fe. It is one of my very favorite places in New Mexico. Here Tom is backing the car out of the garage -- our chariot awaits.
We took the back way (The Turquoise Trail) on Highway 14. This is Camel Rock --
There was some evidence that Spring is actually here! I think these are apple blossoms --
We went through several pretty much abandoned mining towns to the little village of Chimayo. Juni and Tom wanted to take us to see the church there, the Santuario de Chimayo.
This the sanctuary. Unfortunately, they ask that there be no photography in the church, so I have no pictures of the interior.
These are a couple of the mosaics on the outside walls --

From Chimaya we went on to Santa Fe (after a delicious Mexican lunch). Of course, that didn't prevent us from making an ice cream stop late in the afternoon.
It was a beautiful afternoon. Tom and Forry found a sunny spot in the Plaza to sit and talk while Juni and I checked out the shops in the blocks around. We saw lots of very pretty stuff, but only bought some hair clips.
One of the things I really enjoy about Santa Fe is the architecture. We didn't visit here this time, but this is the museum building where there are many of Georgia O'Keeffe's paintings.
We returned to Albuquerque about 6:30, a tired, but happy crew.

A Farewell Dinner
Our friends Tom and Juni will be leaving Valle del Oro RV Resort tomorrow morning. They will be starting their journey back to their home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Juni wanted to go to BJ's Restaurant tonight for her favorite burger before they left.
The burger that Juni loves is a Jalapeno Burger --
It features and incredible layer of breaded, deep-fried jalapeno peppers on top of the meat patty --
That burger is way too spicy for Forry or me! We ended up ordering personal-size pizzas --
One of the really nice fun things at BJs is their "Pizookies." (They coined the name from a combination of cookie and pizza.) It's a warm just-out-of-the-oven cookie with a scoop of ice cream melting on top. We had their Trio Pookie. It had three different kinds of delicious warm cookies, from peanut butter to chocolate chip and macadamia nut.
We not only had a very good meal, but a delightful visit as well. We ended up over at Juni's for a last visit with the puppies before they leave tomorrow.

A Day Out
I am tired tonight. We were both feeling pretty good this afternoon, so we went out to do some long overdue shopping. First on the agenda was a Costco trip. Besides containers of blueberries, we were out of vitamins. Got that task done and then made a stop at Safeway.
We went to the Safeway store a few miles away on Southern rather than the close to us as the one on Southern has a gas station. I had accumulated six Safeway gas points, so we ended up paying $2.43 a gallon to fill the Suzuki. We also picked up the essentials of orange juice and milk.
Then it was back to Auntie Violet for a quick nap before Juni and Tom picked us up to go out to dinner. They took us to BJ's Brewhouse, which they were interested in checking out as rumor has it there is going to be one going in close to where their house is in Albuquerque.
We had three very good entrees -- and one not so good.
Juni had an amazing jalapeno hamburger.
I had BJ's blond shrimp which I ended up sharing with Forry.
Tom had what he said was incredible jambalaya.
Forry ordered the Texas style chicken fried steak which was just plain overdone -- in fact it was so hard it was almost burnt! The waitress took it back to the kitchen...
Rather than order something else, we decided Forry would just share my shrimp since there was way more than I could eat.
A little later the manager came out apologizing for the state of Forry's meal and offered to comp dessert for us. BJ's has a freshly baked cookie that comes out still warm with a scoop of ice cream on it -- delicious!
Today was the first day we've really been out and about since the first of the year. It was good, but Forry's already sleeping in his chair and I'm ready for bed.
