An Absolutely Wonderful Day!

I'm not sure where to even start describing our day. We got up early and drove to Kirkland to where Evergreen Mennonite Church is now meeting. Church was just getting started (thankfully a little late) when we arrived. They are meeting in the Fellowship Hall of a Congregational church.

Pastor Jeannie Rempel had a great sermon based on Jonah -- and how God hadn't given up on him or on Ninevah -- or on us. For a holiday, last Sunday of the summer, there was a good turnout -- about 35 people there. After church, the younger people and kids were heading to a local park for a picnic lunch and a softball game. Our friends Darryll and Linda suggested that some of us "elders" go out for lunch instead (none of us were too interested in playing a chilly game of softball). We ended up with eight of us enjoying lunch and conversation at a Chinese buffet. We sat and talked for so long we ended up hungry again!

Linda said she had baked pies the day before and suggested that we adjourn to their house in Maple Valley for dessert. She had baked both a peach pie and a strawberry/blueberry one. After we checked out the little trailer and the Dodge Dart that Darryll and Linda had driven clear across Canada from Nova Scotia to British Columbia earlier this summer, we took good care of the pies. The fellows adjourned to the living room while the ladies stayed in the kitchen and we all talked some more! It was so nice just to take time to visit. We had a lovely afternoon!
