Fir Island -- Skagit Valley

We took a drive this noon to go bird-watching on Fir Island. The island is formed by a split in the Skagit River. We saw several flocks of starlings and one blue heron, but that was about it as far as birds went. We saw several fields like this -- and had no idea what they might be.

I couldn't stand it anymore and walked out into to the edge of a field to see what it was. What a surprise to see these beautiful heads of broccoli. It was sort of funny to not be able to decide what they were until I was right on top of them.

When we returned to Auntie Violet, the g-kids were just getting home from school. Forry and Daughter MM and Grandson Varick went to Lowes to get lumber. Varick wants to build a floor in the play structure that Grandpa and MM made in the back yard several years ago. Grand daughter Claire and I stayed home so that she could do her homework and practice her piano lesson.
