A Purple Party!

Daughter Dawn is a bit of a purple fanatic -- did I say a bit? She loves the color and uses it throughout her house. You should see her kitchen! She also has a thing about pansies, She's loved them since she was a little girl and always seems to have them planted somewhere around.

Some of the lovely ladies at Zion Mennonite Church (where Son-in-law Todd is pastor) decided to make her a king size quilt to show their love. They had worked on it for over a year. It is hand-quilted and absolutely beautiful! I was fortunate to see it in the making -- every time we were here, the ladies would sneak me into the quilt room to see how it was coming along. I'm glad that they finally finished it, as it was so hard to keep it a secret from her. They presented it to her at church several Sundays ago and I understand she just couldn't stop crying.

Dawn has been trying to figure out how to thank all of the ladies who worked on the quilt. She decided to invite them over to her home on their Quilting Night for snacks and fellowship. The theme of the party is going to be -- can you guess? Purple, of course!

Yesterday we did some shopping and picked up various purple items for the party. Dawn thought she could serve some of the Christmas cookies I have been making with Granddaughter Kyra the last several days. This afternoon, I decided to make some Spritz cookies (made with a cookie press) to go along with the nut balls and crescents I had made earlier. I had made one batch when Kyra came home from school, sprinkling them with purple sugar. Kyra had a better idea. She got out the Martha Stewart cookie decorating set and we used the purple food coloring! You can't say these cookies aren't going to carry out the theme of the party...!

In the mean time, we have been getting organized; paying bills; filing papers; putting stuff away; re-stocking the refrigerator; etc. All so that we can take off tomorrow and once more start heading south.
