Pot 'n Pan Parade

Some interesting things happen at RV Parks, especially those who may have some full-time or seasonal residents. I was quietly reading my Kindle this morning when I glanced out the front window and saw this --

I checked the newsletter given to us by the front office when we registered and sure enough there it was under the 4th of July Festivities: The Pots and Pans Parade!

About a half hour later, the music started and the parade was on. The first entry to come by was this pickup with the Statue of Liberty and Uncle Sam.

It had quite the flag holder on the back --

The campground's Kubota tractor pulled this trailer full of kids --

Then came the Oink Haven float. I heard later that it will be representing the campground at the parade in Wales next week at their celebration. All of the riders on the float had pig noses...

Not sure what the theme of this last rig was, but it had a lot of folks banging on pots --

So far this year we have seen an Easter parade of golf carts and a Christmas night-time parade also of golf carts. It's always interesting to see the creativity of RV folks...

Running Errands

Today was a day for getting some errands done. We made a trip to the nearby Post Office at Loughman and mailed off some birthday and Easter packages. It's a funny little post office that usually has only one person working. Today it was busy -- the line of people mailing packages was out the front door. And they kept coming! When we finally left, the line was just as long as when we came...

From the post office we went to Home Depot and picked up some potting soil and a new pot for my lavender plant. I had planned to repot it this evening when it got cooler, but we got busy working on the ranch books and forgot all about it until it was pitch black outside.

These sunset pictures are from a couple of evenings ago after we had had a pretty violent thunderstorm during the early afternoon --

Easter in San Diego!

I was a bit saddened this morning to realize we weren't in Oregon and wouldn't hear the wonderful Easter singing at Zion. We have been worshiping with the Bretheren In Christ/Mennonite Church in San Diego. There are usually 25-30 people present. Today there were over fifty. The service was wonderful, but I still miss the Zion singing. One of the highlights of the service was an ugly nondescript cross covered with chicken wire -- Pastor Sara described it as "sort of yuck." The children came with flowers during one of the hymns and filled all of the wires with them. It ended up flower filled and gorgeous -- I only wish I had taken my camera in.

After the service and the generous snacks, we (Forry and I and Joel, one of the long-termers) headed for Petco Field:

The San Diego Padres were playing the third game of their series with the San Francisco Giants. They won 6-1 today making it a clean sweep 3-0. The Giants don't seem to be nearly as formidable without Barry Bonds.

We had great seats about forty rows back behind the dugout on the first base side, but they were in the shade. There was quite a breeze at times and by the 7th inning we were freezing. We finally got smart and moved down into empty seats in the sun for the final two innings...

Petco Field is interesting in that they renovated and incorporated the 1909 Western Metal Supply Co. Building into left field. The team store is on the first floor and luxury boxes are on the upper ones.

We stopped at TGIFs on the way back to camp for baby back ribs. All of our wandering long-termers were back this evening to welcome our new crew. Compared to the last two weeks, it's a small group of all guys with three from Oregon, two from British Columbia and one other Canadian.
