It's That Time

Every year I say that I'm going to do the book work every month. And every year I don't. One year I kept up our personal account books for a good six months before I relapsed...

2012 was a normal year for us. We have the whole year of entries to do...

The first task is always to purchase a file box that we use to transfer files into as they are finished. This year, the boxes weren't just plain ordinary colors --

The inside file folders were labeled with letters and all kinds of categories. So out came the label machine to put months on those dividers.

These are the monthly files we are working from. This small file drawer has all of the ranch records. We are very good about putting all the paperwork for each month in its proper hanging file, at least.

This morning we got through January, February and March of the ranch files and got them entered into the Quicken software. I do all of the entries into the computer while Forry figures out what it was he paid for with that American Express or Citibank card. Once all of the months are done, I'll do our personal ones in Quickbook, then the whole caboodle will go to Cleon, our accountant and the guy who gets to make sense of it all.

Another Hot Day in Florida

It was another hot day in Florida today. It's interesting that everyone keeps talking about how "unusual" the weather is. Evidently March and April weather is usually only in the eighties at most, not the high nineties we've been seeing.

We've been watching the weather reports on TV with all of the tornadoes in Texas yesterday. It appears the storm is heading towards the east coast, but with diminished intensity. We may see the edge of it here in the Orlando area -- they're predicting thundershowers tomorrow. It's amazing with all of the destruction the tornadoes caused, there doesn't seem to have been any loss of life.

We made a trip to the Post Office this afternoon -- barely got there before it closed at four. When Forry went to start the car, all we heard was the infamous "click-click." We tried using the portable charger, but it didn't have enough charge to turn the starter; added some water to the battery; plugged in the charger and got the Toad started. Forry stayed in the car while I went into the Post Office, then again when we made a stop at the grocery store.

I don't think it's my day. I had a grocery list that included tea bags for iced tea, but I forgot them. I tried to upload a file to our accountant and it was rejected as being too big. I zipped it and sent it again, but it was still too big.

Maybe tomorrow will be a better -- and cooler -- day.

Visitors from Spokane!

A month or so back, I got an email from my friend Cathi saying that she and her husband Dave would be flying into Tampa and then driving through Orlando on their way to visit family further south the latter part of March. She was wondering if we were still going to be here and if we could meet up for lunch. I immediately double-checked the calendar to make sure our reservations here were through the 27th.

So today we met up with them at a Crisper's over on Highway 27. Neither of our GPS units liked the address of the restaurant, but we were able to find it and then guide them in. What a delight to see them as we hadn't been together since last summer!

Cathi was the Conference Coordinator for several years at the Area Health Education Center at Washington State University in Spokane where we both worked. We have had an "AHEC Reunion" every summer when we have returned to the Spokane area (Cathi has even hosted it at her house, when we decided it was easier for the AHECers with children to meet at a house rather then a restaurant.). We have shared trials, tribulations and joys over the years and are now really enjoying being in the grandmother stage of life.

What made it especially nice today was to enjoy the 80 plus degree weather here while we knew that it was snowing in Spokane this morning!
