We got ourselves organized and made a trip to Costco in Scottsdale this afternoon. We were out of several of our vitamins, but I ended up getting some gorgeous ribeye steaks as well as some hamburger, a bag of shrimp and some other freezer goodies for the nights I don't want to cook.
These are some of the birds we spotted yesterday. There was a nice bunch of Gambel's Quail on the edge of the road --
There was a Gila Woodpecker working over this hole in a saguaro quite strenuously, but another car came by and spooked it just as I was getting ready to snap my picture...
This beautiful blue heron was the only bird we saw at the lake --
This fellow was perched on the top of this rock, checking traffic along the road. He flew before we got a really good look at him, but Forry saw his red tail as he flew over. It's probably the light morph of the Red-Tailed Hawk.
No trip through desert country toward evening would be complete if we didn't catch a glimpse of several of these Phainopeplia sitting high in the branches --
It was another lovely warm day today. It was 80 degrees with a light skiff of overcast all day.
