There are many sculptures in Fountain Hills, especially by the Park of the Fountain and the City Hall/Library/Post Office/Museum Complex. Many of them are beautiful bronzes. But this horse is all by itself in the middle of a parking lot of one of the strip malls. There is no signage nor explanation anywhere around it. It's an interesting collection of junk parts.
Nine times out of ten, we see horses in the same area of the back road when we go from Eagle View to Fountain Hills. At first there were always four of them, but lately we have only seen three.
These pictures give you a pretty good idea of what the country looks like around here. Lots of mesquite and palo verde shrubs, some saguaros and lots of prickly pear cacti.
The horse are pretty oblivious to traffic on the road. We've often come over a hill and seen them just standing on the edge of the road, or even in the middle. As you can see, with all the hot days we've had, the grass is pretty sere and there isn't much of it.
One thing we have not seen is any dead or hurt animals. People seem to be pretty aware that this is Open Range country and drive accordingly. I can only imagine how many calls there would be to the Sheriff's office if there were horses out along the road back at our ranch in Washington!
