Today is Tuesday and after our very busy Monday, we have spent the day recuperating. I think we did overdo it yesterday.
At least it is a bit warmer today. According to the news, the "cold snap" is now over. Our neighbors have brought their plants back outside and removed the covers from the ones in the ground. We saw a great deal of broken portions on some of the cacti yesterday. I'll have to get out and get some pictures.
We listened to the President this morning and have been listening to all of the arguments pro and con about how to cut down on gun violence. I just saw a graph on Facebook that purported to show how few gun deaths there are in comparison to other causes. But, I guess it's that the idea of of massacres, especially of children that gets to us all. I can understand the argument that all of the various proposed restrictions only penalize law-abiding citizens. But on the other hand, there has to be some way to cut down on all of the violence.
It's been a good night for watching TV. Many of the shows we like were on tonight with new episodes. We have really been enjoying Nashville. I think partly it's because we spent time there last year and it's fun to glimpse sights of places we've seen or were at.

And Now, Arkansas
When we were discussing what we wanted to do in Tennessee besides go to the Grand Ole Opry, I immediately said that I wanted to see Graceland. Well, we were in Nashville and Graceland is in Memphis -- almost across the state. Tennessee is not a real big state, it's wide and skinny, but it was a good two hundred and thirty miles. We followed Tom and Juni out of the Nashville Country RV Park this morning headed for Interstate 40 West --
It was long trip, but we finally came to the western edge of the state and approached the Mississippi River --
And right in the middle of the bridge, we crossed into Arkansas --
We had originally planned to stay at the RV Park at Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee, but Tom was on-line making the reservations and he found this really neat RV Park across the river in West Memphis, Arkansas. It's called Tom Sawyer's Mississippi River RV Park and it really is right on the river!

And then looking to the left --
The weather forecast is predicting a thunderstorm tonight and the wind is really blowing already, but once it clears off, it should be a gorgeous night with this full moon --
The line of thunderstorms in Oklahoma, Texas and southern Arkansas is predicted to spawn tornadoes tonight, so everyone is a bit jumpy. We have the NOAA weather radio turned on, even though it's not supposed to be bad this far north...

Joe's Crab Shack
We need another night in Nashville -- there are still places we need to eat at. Cleon sent me a note about a place that has the "best catfish fillets in America" and Bill sent his list as well. But tonight we all voted for crab! We had eaten together at a Joe's Crab Shack last New Year's Eve (Bill was sick, but Leslie got to come.) and had wanted to go back.
Juni had one of the buckets that had three kinds of crab (King, Dungeness and Snow) as well as sausage, potatoes and corn --
Tom had a hot spicy version of the same --
I settled for just the Dungeness crab -- my favorite -- that also came with corn on the cob and new potatoes. Forry decided that he just wanted to have coconut shrimp. He said they were really good, but from the look on his face, I'm not so sure...
By the end of the meal, the bucket in the middle of the table was full of shells, corn cobs and a bit of trash...
It was dark out when we had finished eating The AT&T Building, also known as the "bat" building, is the landmark building of downtown Nashville.
Sister Roxy gave me a bad time last night about eating ribs without her, but the crab was even better!

Opryland Hotel
After a very lazy morning, Juni and Tom came over to Auntie Violet and we went back past downtown Nashville to the Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Resort to look around and have lunch. This hotel complex is an incredible place -- there are nine acres of atrium, flowers, fountains and waterfalls all under climate controlled glass.
Devastated by the floods of May 2010 that saw the grounds under ten feet of water, the resort has made a remarkable recovery. This video was on You Tube during the flood.
This picture is in some of the same area shown in the video --
Mennonite Church USA met here for its biennial convention several years ago -- we pretty much took over the whole space --
I remembered it as being very green (we met over the 4th of July), but didn't remember all of the gorgeous flowers --
This Christmas cactus is just beginning to bloom. It will probably be in its splendor by the holidays --
One of the multiple waterfalls --
Those are white orchids blooming on the trunk of this palm tree --
Everywhere you looked, there was something in bloom --
Part of the glass roof that covers the entire property --
Another of the waterfalls and pools --
A couple of the "characters" outside of the shops --
On the lower level of the atrium, there is this area of programmed fountains that shoot from one island --
to another --
They were just beginning to hang Christmas garlands and decorations. They will have a "grand Christmas Opening" on November 18th. I understand they go all out!
This is a blown glass "fountain" in the main lobby. You can see a portion of the Tiffany glass ceiling above it --
During one last look down into the three level atrium, I was bemused by this plant. Looking somewhat like an elephant ear, the leaves were four to five feet across!
We were going to spend some more time downtown in Printer's Alley after we ate our lunch, but after all the walking we did last night and all the walking we did at Opryland, we settle for a tour by car before heading home for some football games and well-deserved naps.

Grand Ole Opry
What a FUN evening! We went to the Friday night Grand Ole Opry broadcast at the Ryman Theatre in Nashville tonight with Tom and Juni.
The theatre is right in downtown Nashville and is a gorgeous old building --
We saw a dozen different acts, broken up into four segments. I had really wanted to see the group, Diamond Rio --
We got a kick out of Little Jimmy Dickens. He's ninety years old and still very talented and sharp --
We also saw a new young artist make his Opry debut, J.T. Hodges --
The show started at 7 PM and lasted until a little after 9:30. When we came out, the streets were very alive with lots of people and several music buskers on the corners. We walked a few blocks to Big River Brewery where we had a great meal.
I must thank Juni for the great pictures as I didn't even think to bring my camera!

On To Tennessee
I was awakened a little after 6 AM this morning by the sound of a downpour on the roof of Auntie Violet. Now, we used to have a metal roof on one of the porches in our house in Spokane that was right outside our upstairs bedroom window. And I enjoyed the sound of the rain on that roof -- mainly because I didn't hear it very often!
The rain tapered off a bit while we were getting everything disconnected so that we could move this morning. Still, we got quite wet while we were disconnected the water and electricity. We didn't have terribly far to go. It's a pretty short drive from Bowling Green, Kentucky to Nashville, Tennessee. It's a straight shot down I-65.
As you can see, it was a gray day for traveling --
We're staying at an RV Park, Nashville Country RV Park, in a northern suburb of Nashville called Goodlettsville. Our friends, Juni and Tom, will arrive tomorrow.
We got here early enough to make a much needed Costco run (of course, clear on the other side of Nashville!). I bought some great blue crab dip and lobster dip from Gold Coast in Naples, Florida to use for appetizers the next couple of days. When I asked why we never saw either of these at our local Costcos, I was told that they don't freeze them, so only sell them in the southeast. At least, Forry got his favorite gourmet meal -- a Costco Polish dog!
