Time for a Costco Run

We've been putting it off, but Forry used the last tab of dishwasher soap doing the dishes last night, so today we finally made a Costco trip. We're going to have to check out Safeway or one of the other grocery stores though if we want any fresh berries. Costco had NO strawberries or blueberries and just a couple of sleeves of pretty sad looking raspberries.

They did have some great looking meat though, so I stocked up on some rib eyes, hamburger and lamb chops. We looked at a very nice looking boneless leg of lamb, but it was still an awful lot of meat for just two of us, so we left it go. It did mean that I had to spend some time when we got home repackaging the larger packages of meat in to smaller packages to freeze for us.

We had gone late enough in the afternoon to justify buying Costco Polish dogs for supper. I bought two Polish dogs (one with sauerkraut) with two drinks and a churro to split and had change from a five dollar bill. Saturday night at the Salt River baseball game I bought two Polish dogs with onions and peppers and a bottle of water and had a few pennies returned from a twenty dollar bill. Besides which, the Costco dogs were a whole lot better!

A Slow Saturday

When you don't get up very early and it's almost noon by the time you get showers and breakfast done, it doesn't leave a whole lot of day. It was actually a bit warmer today. I was able to sit outside and read for a while this afternoon.

We were out of milk and orange juice, so made a trip over to the nearby Safeway store and from there went to Costco for the big cartons of blueberries. Forry's been hungry for one of their Polish dogs, so that's what we had for supper. It's hard to beat the price -- $1.50 for the large hot dog and a soda!

Costco had some caramels -- "made in small batches with real butter and cream." I bought some and they are good, but they don't compare to the ones Sister Sherry makes. The last ones we got from her were sprinkled with sea salt -- so good! Sherry likes to make caramels, but hates to cut and wrap them, so unless Napua or I am there it just doesn't happen. :-(

We got another lovely care package yesterday. Sister Roxy sent a box STUFFED with various kinds of tea, both loose and bags. It's going to be a nice change from all of the coffee we've been drinking. We've been enjoying these Christmas surprises.

Malaise

ma*laise
  n. a general feeling of discomfort, illness, or uneasiness whose exact cause is difficult to identify: a society afflicted by a deep cultural malaise/ a general air of malaise.
<ORIGIN> mid 18th cent.: from French, from Old French mal 'bad' (from Latin malus) + aise 'ease'
 The New Oxford American Dictionary

That's the way I felt today. I didn't sleep well last night, then didn't want to get myself awake this morning. The harder I tried to wake up, the sleepier I felt. My blood sugar was low, but I had no desire to eat breakfast or lunch. I couldn't tell Forry what was wrong, I just felt blah.

I did pull myself together late this afternoon to repeat our trip to Costco. Forry got his Polish dog fix, but it didn't even smell good to me. I settled for part of a dish of ice cream...

It was NOT fun putting groceries a way when we got back. (It's definitely not my favorite task when I'm feeling good.) Got the job done and back to the couch.

Mail and a Costco Run

We got a HUGE box of mail from Daughter MM today. She was not only forwarding magazines, newspapers and mail, but several filled prescriptions that were 90 day supplies. There was also a surprise package of coffee from Guatemala that Daughter Dawn had sent along (she had been there on a ten-day medical mission last month). I had planned to ride my trike up to the office when Bill called me to tell me the mail flag was out, but Leslie was nice and just brought it down.

I spent a good share of the afternoon catching up on the laundry which I hadn't done for over a week. I had three big loads that ended up strung all over Auntie Violet. At least it was cooler today so that we could have the windows open with a breeze to help dry the clothes.

A little after four we went with Bill and Leslie over to make a Costco run. Neither one of us needed a lot of stuff, so we just took one vehicle. I could NOT believe that this Costco had NO blueberries! That and Vitamin D were my reason for going. That left the main purpose of the trip be to have Costco Polish Dogs for supper... Which, of course, made Forry very happy.

As a friend commented on Facebook, you certainly can't beat the price. After all of these years, a Polish Dog and a refillable soft drink is still $1.50! (I always have to chuckle when we are there at noon-time and you see all the businessmen in their white shirts, ties and suits coming in to eat their hot-dog for lunch.)
