Two States -- To Get Groceries?!

This morning we watched Juni and Tom go down the road --

and leave the RV Park here in Tunica are their way to Red Bay, Alabama and the Allegro Bay factory where they are going to have some warranty work done.

We were out of orange juice, so went into the Piggly-Wiggly in Tunica. I wanted to re-stock some staples for the kitchen as well as pick up a few things for next week. The prices were extremely high; the vegetables all looked wilted; and the meat department area smelled bad. I decided that I'd much drive the extra twenty miles to the Krogers that the GPS had shown.

I always forget that the GPS shows mileage as the crow flies... It was more like 30-35 miles! It was a nice drive through what they call the North Delta country. We saw this line-up of what looked like round bales.  But, when we got closer, we realized

that they were actually tightly packed bales of cotton. Quite a bit different looking then the boxcar-sized rectangles of cotton we saw in fields in Arizona last winter.

Not much later we found ourselves crossing this narrow two-lane bridge over the mighty Mississippi River into the State of Arkansas. The store in Helena, Arkansas that the GPS said was a Kroger, no longer was. It still wasn't great, but it was a lot better than the one in Tunica.

Early, Early Sunset

It's earlier and earlier every night! It was a glorious sunset this evening -- the sky was red all the way around. But, it was dark out by 8 PM!

I am not, and never have been a morning person. But I do like long light summer evenings like the ones we have in June and July. As it gets dark earlier, it also gets colder. I am not thrilled about being this far north this late in the year. We really should be thinking about moving south, but we've got a long wait. It will at least be late November by the time we will be able to leave the Spokane area.

I guess I'll have to just start getting used to short days and long nights...

A Bit of This n That

This beautiful plant is growing up the side of the motor home across the road from us. I don't know what it is, but it sure is pretty.

I spent most of today installing stuff on the new computer and redoing all my contacts and such. It's a good thing I have all of my contacts and my calendar on my iPhone. I was able to sync them back onto the new computer. That would really have been a mess if I'd have lost them too! I've been working on getting our taxes ready. I downloaded and printed all of the 1099s from my retirement account as well as the stock account. Fortunately I had printed off the summary of 2008 on Quicken before the computer crashed.

Also did several loads of laundry. Poor Forry had to empty the gray water tank again tonight so that we can shower in the morning (he'd just done it yesterday). It had rained hard again during the night last night. You can see all of the puddles behind Auntie Violet.

Forry started putting away the barbecue and the outside tables and chairs so that we can get an early relatively early start tomorrow morning. I took this picture at the same time as I took the sunset one above -- you can see the sunset reflected in Auntie Violet's slideout.
