Our Last Day

I walked back from the office the long way this morning, along the "G" road. It's pretty deserted, with many empty sites and closed up park models -- and very few flowers. I did find this one stunning hedgehog cactus that was just loaded with pink blooms --

So far, I've seen white ones, an orange one and now this dark pink one --

One of the things I've discovered is how short-lived the blossoms are. It's almost as if it takes two days to form buds; they open that evening; and by the end of the second day they are all shriveled up. The pink ones above were probably at their prime yesterday.

This is how lonesome Auntie Violet looked when I walked up. When we leave tomorrow, there will only be one occupied 5th wheel on the whole street. After it cooled off this evening, we went out and folded up the recliners and the lawn chairs and loaded them into the Toad. The foot scraper, foot mat and the metal road runner all went into the Toad as well. As soon as the Mariners game is over, Forry will drain both the black and grey tanks so that we will be ready to roll in the morning. We are going to head for the Meteor Crater north along Highway 40.

  1. Safe travels! I've loved your cacti pictures! Thanks for sharing. We're leaving Rapid City today, heading for Idaho.

  2. We left Florida for Georgia too. Must have been a traveling day. When plants flower it sucks all the water from them. Maybe that is why blooms on a cactus die so quickly, not much water to drain in the first place and the plant can't handle much.
