It was another very quiet day today. I spent most of it on the couch with my iPad reading. I've been trying to keep my foot elevated and the swelling is about the same as it was yesterday. Todd and Dawn and Kyra spent most of the day bringing boxes and other stored stuff out from the attic. Havela's friend Katy had her Graduation Party this afternoon.
Dawn and Todd stopped by the party on their way home from a Goodwill run and had enough pulled pork there that they weren't hungry for dinner, so Forry and I decided to run into the Dairy Queen in Canby for some dinner. We were going to take Kyra and Micah, who hadn't gone to the party, with us. Then somehow, we ended up deciding to go to the movie theater and see Monsters' University as well. Dawn and Todd joined us there.
Since the movie was in 3D, I decided that I didn't want to eat anything before hand. The rest of them had popcorn and drinks. Without a full stomach, I was able to watch the 3D movie without getting nauseous! After the movie, we did finally go to DQ so that I could have a hamburger while the rest had ice cream.
It was good to get out of the house for a while.

Not What I Wanted To Do Tonight!
Well, it's almost 10:30 and we just got home from the Emergency Room in Silverton...
I was heading over to Daughter Dawn's to put the washing I'd done earlier into the dryer; caught my sandal on Auntie Violet's step and took a tumble. I pitched forward toward the bottom of the three steps and ended up with my right ankle twisted on the last step while my left one was still up on the top one. I guess it was a good thing the screen door was closed, as otherwise I might have ended up outside on the gravel!
By the time Dawn got home from wwnork and we ate supper (pork chops with blueberry sauce created by Granddaughter Kyra), my ankle was getting pretty swollen. So, we decided I should at least get it x-rayed to make sure it wasn't broken. Daughter Dawn, Havela and I went to the closest Urgent Care, but it was already closed, so went on to the Emergency Room at the Silverton Hospital.
It was actually a pretty fast visit considering that the ER was very full. We were there a little over an hour and a half. One of the things that moved it along very quickly was that their portable x-ray machine was brought to the room and the doctor was able to quickly review the scan on his computer. Turns out it isn't broken, just a bad sprain. I came home with an ace wrap and a soft air splint that I'm supposed to wear for two weeks.
On a much more enjoyable note -- I took Kyra into Canby to her orthodontist this afternoon to get her braces off! Isn't this a happy smile?!

I Think It's Wednesday...
It's been one of those days that I look back at and wonder what I did all day. I do know that the day started with Grandson Micah conning his Grammy into fixing him some bacon for a second breakfast this morning. Everyone else had left earlier: Granddaughter Havela had early choir practice and had to drive into Canby a little after six-thirty. Daughter Dawn headed in for her job with Public Health a half hour or so later; Granddaughter Kyra took the bus to the high school; and Son-in-law Todd left for his job at Salem Mennonite Church on his motor cycle.
Micah's school had a late start this morning. He didn't have to be there until 9:45, so he had time for a little food and a nice visit. He's eleven now and a bit of a charmer. It's fun to listen to his view of the world.
This afternoon I put a chuck roast with carrots, potatoes and onions in the oven over at Dawn's house. While it was cooking, the grandkids decided I needed to be introduced to "Glee." So we watched the first three episodes on Netflix. Forry and I had watched one episode earlier last year, but hadn't been impressed enough to watch it again. Watching with the kids -- and having their commentary -- made it a fun show to watch.

Dominos?
It was sort of a lazy day today. I did take our bedspread over to Daughter Dawn's to use her washer and dryer to wash it. It's just too big for my little Splendide washer to handle. But other than that I really didn't do much beside read.
This afternoon after she got home from school, I rode with Granddaughter Havela to Salem where she had an appointment. Havela's driver's license is just a couple of weeks old and it's fun riding with her and seeing what a careful driver she is. It's hard to believe that she is actually old enough to drive and even harder to realize that she will be graduating from Canby High School this coming Spring!
I fixed a couple of the acorn squashes (they were all volunteers...) from Dawn's garden with butter, brown sugar and honey for supper this evening while Todd barbecued spare ribs. The kids aren't really old enough to enjoy squash, but the adults feasted.
Dawn has barred Todd from playing Hand and Foot, our usual card game when we get together, so we had to find something else tonight. After debating Risk, Clue or the Farming Game, we settled on a game of Mexican Train Dominoes. There are so many variations of the rules which led to some intense discussions at times. It was a very loud and noisy evening.

Court of Honor
What a day we had today! When I asked the girls what they wanted to do on this holiday that they had off from school, they said they wanted to go to brunch at a restaurant called "Top of the Hill." Daughter Dawn left early and RAN the five plus miles to the restaurant. Granddaughter Havela, with her brand new driver's license, drove the rest of us there to meet her. We also invited our friends Pat and Warde to join us. We sent the males to one corner of the restaurant and we ladies took another. We had a great visit as well as a lovely brunch.
This evening we had the honor of attending Boy Scout Troop 203's Court of Honor in Canby. Grandson Micah received his Tenderfoot badge as well as several Merit badges --
Many of the members of his troop also received badges for their camp attendance this past summer --
Another good day!

Micah's Soccer Game
Sure enough, it took both Son-in-law Todd and I to block traffic so that we could back Auntie Violet into their driveway this morning. But we got the job done. We didn't even hook up the water and the electricity before it was time to leave for Grandson Micah's soccer game. It was the last game of the season for the 91 School team.
The game was over in Milwaukie --
Micah's playing defense this season --
It was a good game for the boys from 91 School. I think the final score was 6-1.
It was a chilly afternoon. The boys even had a blanket over on their side of the field for when they were on the bench --
After the game, the whole team, their coaches, and their families went to the Canby Dairy Queen for treats. Here one of the coaches is presenting Micah with his soccer medal for the year (all of the kids got one).

Dinner with Dawn!
I had been feeling a bit blue, as we are very close to where our youngest daughter and son-in-law and those precious grandchildren live, but could not spend the night there as our daughter had basically placed them in quarantine! The whole Hubbard community has been passing around a Noravirus type thing with lots of puking and diarrhea and it has been ravaging their whole family. Dawn and the kids have all had it and now it's Todd's turn.
We had come as far as Wilsonville this afternoon so that we could do some needed shopping at Camper World -- and could spend the night in their parking lot. Daughter Dawn decided that since she had been well for a few days (she actually went to school today), she would come and have dinner with us. It was so good to see her! We left their place right after New Year's, so it's been a while. We didn't get to see the kids (Dawn had dropped Granddaughter Havela and two of her friends at her first inter-school dance in Canby) but at least er got to see her. Havelita, who is now 14, will be bussed into Canby for high school next year.
It was a good day for catching up with folks as we get closer to "home." Our friend Sarah called this afternoon to plan a get-to-gather and our friend Mary called to catch us up on friends who are starting their RVing adventure tomorrow in a 5th wheel.
We will make it to Tree Heart Ranch tomorrow afternoon sometime (even though the ranch is leased out, we have water, sewer and electrical hook-ups for Auntie Violet there). It will be good to be home.
