Since we were still hooked up with Toad II, it didn't take near as long to get going this morning. We were already heading down the highway by 10:30. We started out south on I-5 until we connected up with Highway 99 down by Sacramento. From there it was another hour or so to get to Collier Road and turn off to Delphi and the Merced River RV Park.
The skies weren't as clear and blue as they were yesterday afternoon. There were wisps of clouds floating around most of the day. The lady in the office said the weather forecast was for 90% chance of rain tonight. It is so dry here, they are quite anxious for moisture. If it comes, I'll just have to grin and bear it!
The agricultural bounty in this part of California is incredible. We went by lots of olive trees, many fields of recently harvested rice, and some fields of vegetables. We saw many vineyards and lots and lots of orchards. I think some of them may have been avocados, others were almonds, but there are many that I couldn't identify. I would so love to see farms put the names of their crops on signs by their fields. I can't be the only one who wonders.
California looks so different from the other states we drive through. First you notice the palm trees and then maybe some cacti. There are cypress trees, eucalyptus trees and the oleander bushes in the median. All these are things that seem to be singular to California and let you know definitely where you are!
