Out to Dinner -- Soon!

These are pictures of a couple of the thirty springs in the Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge. The first one is of Longstreet Spring in the northern part of the refuge. The picture is looking straight down into the water (you can see the reflections of plants around the edges). The spring is actually bubbling up from the center of that blue area. The white clouds are sand stirred up by the erupting water and carried by the current.

This one is Crystal Spring. The water is incredibly clear --

Couldn't have a blog post without some wildflower pictures, now could we? This one is Sacred Datura (Datura wrightii) that grows along the roadsides. Each flower opens for one day and then dies. All parts of the plant are extremely poisonous, but Native Americans did use it medicinally -- and I'm sure carefully!

These are some huge boulders of dolomite which are piled up by Longstreet Spring. I think these were set in position by the builders of the boardwalk, but the area is full of them.

We decided to go into Pahrump for dinner and to pick up some groceries, but the Mariners and Detroit were playing at 6 PM, so we'll wait until after the game...
